~Condo Living Room Before~

The view from the kitchen.
Looking across the living room, from the bar.
I would like to paint the coffee table a light cream color or white and "distress" it. The table was a sidewalk sale purchase, just before we moved into the condo, in 2003. It's staying. The size and height of the table are wonderful. It's sturdy, too. Just the sort of table we need. The cabinet at the end of the sofa will stay, also. It has louvred doors and stores books and magazines.

The area rug is Dash & Albert Cabin Stripe. This will stay, also. We hope to replace the carpet with hard surface flooring.

If you look above the lamp, sitting on the white cabinet, beside the sofa, you will see where J ended the Sherwin Williams Snowflake, the other day. Snowflake will continue around the room.
From the bar, looking toward the "cubby dilemma". The interior of the cubby will be painted Sherwin Williams Mink. Shelving for the TV, is being constructed, as well as a mantel, in white.
The gull with sunglasses will sit on the deck, as usual, when weather warms.

The wine cabinet is being moved to another area of the room.

We are moving "artwork" and furniture from other rooms, as we do at home; using what we have, when possible, for this redo. The Pottery Barn butterflies will stay. I'm looking for a barrel shade for the lamp, beside this chair.

This is one of the pieces of driftwood, J found along the lake shore. These photos show it on each side. We're not sure how it will be used. The deck is a project for warmer weather. We moved the wicker chest to the porch, this week. It will hold bbq utensils and other things, used on the deck.

A grid of framed calendar pictures hangs over the red sofa. I have some thoughts of what I will replace these with.
The sofa is very comfortable and is holding up well. It will stay.
There you have it, the living room before and a few thoughts we have for a little makeover.
Our daughter and son in law, arrive Friday evening. We hope to complete the painting here and in the master bath room, over the weekend. I'll post a little something about the bathroom, soon.
I have several questions from readers and will answer them in a post, soon.
We will have a busy weekend. Hope yours is wonderful!

You and your family are very fortunate to have such a lovely retreat and you are doing an awesome job redoing it. It is great that you are re-using, modifying, and buying second hand pieces. It is not only environmentally friendly but also makes both your and J's home and condo spaces unique. You offer me, as well as many others I'm sure, so much inspiration. I enjoy stopping by each day to check for updates. Thanks again.

Love the view and that driftwood is gorgeous. I have just recently found your blog - but I have a question, where is the red sofa from? I've been looking for one like that for so long and even though I'm in the furiture capital (near High Point, NC) I haven't come across one that looks that sturdy, comfortable, and just the right shade of red.

You inspire me. My plans for this spring (after I read, read, read for 6 weeks in Sunny California) is to return to my 1977 huge kitchen and strip all the wallpaper off and hire my talented neighbor girl to help me choose colors. Wish me luck.

I just came over from Lime in a Coconut and saw that you have this fabulous piece of driftwood..., I also recently did a post on driftwood and have a picture up of a piece used with bud vases. I think the idea is great and maybe yours could possibly be used like that. You might want to check it out. I'd love to find such a wonderful piece!

I love seeing your before photos! Now I am looking forward to the after ones! I also learned how to develop a plan for decorating... looking at what you want to keep and what you want to redo. Sharing your thinking with us helps us think in a way that decorators do. It is what I model when I teach reading... how to think like a good reader. It makes total sense now!

There you go again, Ms. Pat, impressing my socks off! Just love your condo and all you're doing. About the piece of driftwood - my daughter has told me she saw a piece of driftwood and it had been sawed in half and used as the base of a coffee table. I surely wouldn't want to saw yours in half, but maybe a piece of glass could be attached? Just a thought.
Oh, I was at Susie Harris' and she showed the sign she made for you - We Gather Together To Ask The Lord's Blessings - I just may have to have me one too!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

I felt like I was right there with you---strolling through your condo, Pat!! So much fun----and I need some fun today!

How on earth do you get all of those pictures in that grouping (grid of calendar pictures) to be evenly placed and to STAY in place? Do you use those "stops" that stick on the back of the picture frame? Is this a two "person" job? I'm serious---that just amazes me!

No wonder you love that lake place of yours--the view alone is just spectacular and your condo is wonderful.

We're cold in Independence--it was -1 this morning!

Have a good day! Dana

Your living room ideas sound great. I think the mink in the cubby will be a nice contrast. You do need a mantel. We decorators must have mantels. They are so much fun to decorate. Enjoy your family this week and don'r work too hard.

Thanks for your visits and comments especially for the barns. I love those too.

Hugs...Jeanne

You have more energy than anyone I know! I've been "thinking" about redoing the computer room (aka: The Star Wars Room), but just haven't gotten up the energy to tackle it yet. I started this "thinking" about 4 or 5 months ago. lol I have to get to IKEA in Frisco, Tx first so I can get the display shelves I need to hold my Star Wars collectibles. If I ever just get in the car and get that done, I'll be "committed" to the redo and would pick up that pace. I just dread having to drive all the way to Frisco. I sort of know what I want (I saw them at an IKEA in Minnesota this past summer), but I need to see them in person again to make a final decision and well...it just seems like such a chore to have to do that. So I keep staring at the walls in that room, thinking I really need to do something with them...one of these days. lol
