~A Table in Blue & White~

The dining room table, set in blue and white for the 1st Tablescape Thursday, hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch.

Enoch Wedgewood Countryside was produced for a few years during the mid 1960's. The dishes I used for this table once belonged to J's mother. We believe she acquired many of the pieces at garage sales. We've added to the collection over the years, since we've owned the set. We considered selling the dishes in 2007, but in the end, packed them up and stored them in the basement.
We've heard, from various sources, these dishes were given away with grocery receipts. Do you have any information about Countryside? If so, I'd love to learn more about this pattern.
Our collection of Countryside includes several serving pieces, including, a coffee server, gravy boat and plate, a covered serving bowl and open serving bowl. I used sauce bowls instead of saucers for this table. There are dinner plates, bread and butter plates, salad plates, cups and saucers, and sauce bowls.

I used Oneida stainless flatware in the Louisiana pattern and several of our pieces of cobalt blue; some old and others new. The goblets are new, from Target.
The faux chocolate cake is from Evergreen Mfg., Osage Beach, MO. The fresh flowers are from Kroger, a great source for affordable fresh flowers.
I found this sugar scuttle at a thrift store, that benefits a local Sheltered Workshop. It's missing it's scoop; the price $4. I used a child sized teaspoon, in the Louisiana pattern, today. I'll be looking for a scoop for the scuttle. It's always fun to treasure hunt, especially with something in mind.
I purchased the white with navy stripe napkins at Pier One, after Christmas, for .79 each.

This tiny cobalt lidded condiment server once belonged to friends of ours.
I've added a button at the top of my sidebar, for Notable Quotes. The first quote is a comment, left by Joni at Cote de Texas, on the previous post.
We've decided to keep the table as is and here at home. We'll be shopping for a more cottage style table, for the condo.
From time to time, I'll randomly select comments to be featured as a "notable quote".
I've looked for ice skates to hang on our old metal sled, on the back porch, for over a year. Tuesday, I found these at Budget Boutique, a resale shop that benefits Earthwise Industries, a local Sheltered Workshop. Earthwise does recycling.
Grandchildren Xanti, Gabi and Drew and Granddog Jersey. Snow Angels!

I love the blue and white. I have Spode Tower pattern in blue that I inherited from my grandmother (who never used them).

Beautiful snow angels!

ohhh! I love blue and white plates...nothing is prettier to me!! The crocheted table topper is gorgeous...just the perfect touch! And the cobalt blue goblets add so much pop! Love it...Debbie

Your snow angels are just that...angels! Precious and beautiful angels.
I love your sled and skates. We have an old sled that once belonged to a dear friend and is identical to the one I had as a child. I found skates like yours at the Goodwill! They had been purchased in 1968 and were still in the JC Penney's box, never worn! I believe I paid $1.50 for them, probably a good deal less than the first owner paid in '68!

As always, your tables are delightful. As you probably know, I love blue and white and always find it so fresh and lovely! These dishes are not obly pretty but a true family treasure...so many memories attached to each piece.

Kroger is a wonderful place to choose a bouquet of fresh flowers! I often bring home something pretty when I do my weekly shopping. It is such a sweet pick me up, especially on a dull, gray Winter day.

Love,
Sue

Hi, Pat -
Your table is gorgeous! But don't you think you paid a bit too much for those napkins? Oh well, you might as well live dangerously and splurge once in awhile. I love the blue and white. My dear little mother collects cobalt blue and her table is always a feast for the eyes. I'll have to get some photos the next time she has it set for company. Thanks for sharing with us today - another inspiration.

I have those Oneida Louisiana flatware. I really like the pattern. My daughter wants them in the future. I also have that little cobalt blue creamer next to your sugar scuttle. I love anything cobalt blue! Your glasses are lovely. The way that light shines through the blue gives me a good feeling. I like my blue in the window so I see it every day.

I don't think I have seen that pattern before. I looked it up in my book, "English Transferware, Popular 20th Century Patterns" and it isn't listed with other Wedgewood patterns - similar ones but they all had borders. Hope you find out some info. The author of the book is Mark Gibbs, P. O. Box 1075, Groton, MA 01450 - I met him at the flea market in Round Top, TX and he is very knowledgable and interested in new patterns. Enjoyed your table today. Sally

Pat, it's hard to believe that those great looking dishes were given away at the grocery store, and they're Wedgwood, too! To me, Wedgwood's whites on their plates just can't be beat! I'm glad you kept them. Love the blue and white. It really looks great on your table, and I like all of your touches..like the shuttle and the striped napkins. Great looking table there! :-)

XO,

Sheila

Love your snow angels, too! :-)

I don't know anything about the Countryside dishes but you can find out whatever you want on Google. They are very pretty..I have one plate of the same pattern..am sure I got it at a thrift store a long time back.

wanted to thank you so much for the card. Even though mom had passed away it meant alot to dad. He said be sure and tell you she is healed. As tears came from his eyes I know he is lost they were together 59 years, but he is happy she hurts no more.
Your muffin did fit you. You are one of the most loving, caring women I know. You never put yourself ahead of others. What a beautiful heart.

I came from a family of blue-and-white collectors. I still have a miniature tea set with all the fixins' that my great aunt gave me back in the 50's when I was young.

There is something so beautifully soothing about the colors ~ and your table is delightful to me.

What a lovely tablescape, Pat. The elegant cobalt glassware beautifully complements the blue and white china.

I agree with you about Kroger being a great place to buy fresh flowers for a very reasonable price. I buy mine there and have had some that stayed fresh for a week or longer.

The table scape is absolutely gorgeous! I like the skate idea. I wish we had hung onto our old sled. I can't find them anyhwhere any more. I tried grabbing the tablescape button to add to my blog, but it was way to big. When I get time, I'll work on making it smaller if possible. Hope to have it added soon. :)
