Foodie Friday is a fun event, each week, at Designs by Gollum.
Spaghetti and Meatballs
1.5 pounds very lean ground sirloin
2 eggs (beaten)
1/4 cup chopped onion
Dried or fresh Oregano and Basil, to taste.
1 garlic clove (minced) or garlic salt/powder
3/4 cup dried bread crumbs (plain)
Spray cookie sheet, mix ingredients and form meatballs. Baking at 375, about 40 minutes.
While the meatballs are baking, place 2 15 ounce cans tomato sauce and one 14.5 ounce can diced tomatoes in a dutch oven. Add Oregano and Basil to taste and simmer. When the meatballs have baked, add them to the sauce and continue to simmer.
Cook spaghetti (al dente) in boiling water. Drain and toss with about 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil. Serve with meatball sauce, topped with freshly grated parmesan cheese and basil.
While I prefer fresh herbs, I didn’t happen to have any on hand, here at the lake. I used dried herbs, crushed between my palms to release the flavor.
I served this dish with crusty bread.
There are a variety of recipes for meatballs. I tend to make mine, in this way, most often. However, I am apt to mix it up a bit, if the mood strikes me right.
Enjoy!
It started with the blue and yellow bouquet, I found at Trader Joe’s. I added the blue birds, cobalt glassware, white dishes and blue and yellow placemats and napkins; giving our table a sort of French Country look.

Before leaving for the lake, Monday morning, J had an appointment with his Urologist, in Saint Louis, for his 6 month check up.
As many of you know, J is a Prostate Cancer survivor. The appointment went well.
While we were waiting, a couple came into the waiting room and sat across from us. J asked the gentleman about the cap he was wearing. The man was so pleased and proud to tell us about the cap. In the end, the conversation was a beautiful gift we accepted with much gratitude.
You see, the man we met, is retired military. The cap he was wearing proclaimed him a three war veteran.
At 82, Mr T. was an exuberant storyteller and enjoyed telling us about his military experiences, beginning at the age of 17,When he enlisted and served in the Army (Pacific, where my father served), during World War 2. Later, Mr T. joined the Marines and served in Korea. He served 22 years, including service in the Air Force, in Vietnam.
Mr. T. was to have surgery this week. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
Because of this soldier and others like him, we are able to enjoy this beautiful lake place and much more. Thank you for your service and to all those who still go in harms way, protecting our freedom!

I love your Frenchy blue and yellow table. The bouquet is gorgeous. Trader Joe's is almost always where I get my flowers. They have such great prices.
Your spaghetti and meatballs look delicious. I can almost smell them!
Wonderful story about meeting the war veteran. My hubby is retired from the Navy after 26 years. You are so right that we have the military men and women to thank for us being able to live freely.

Very pretty table. I love the colors. I'm glad you asked the man about his hat, I'm sure he enjoyed sharing his experiences as much as you enjoyed hearing them.

Knock, knock! Hey I'm at the door...*I smelled the spaghetti down the street, followed the smell and it led me here. Can you let me in? hahaha...big smile. I always enjoy seeing what you are up to Pat. I'm still in awe of your outdoor tablescape post awhile ago with the outdoor fireplace...that stuck with me.
So beautiful! I love it!
Blessings,
Debbie
Very lovely table, Pat!
And hats off to our military. I'm so grateful to them. My cousin is over there right now (Air Force).
So glad that J's appointment went well and hope the other gentleman does well, too.
XO,

First: Thank You Mr. T for serving our country! I Think more recognition should be given to the men and women who serve our country and fight for our freedom (to many times taken for granted). Such a pretty table setting. Think I have said before - cobalt blue is one of my favorite colors.
Stunning table. The blue is my favorite color in photos. Such a wonderful post too. My father is also a prostate cancer survivor. I recently spent time with an older gentleman while waiting for tests. Isn't it amazing how someone can come into your life at any time and make such an impression? Gotta love life! Thank you for sharing everything.

Blue and yellow is my favorite color combination. I love the cobal blue glassware.
As you may know I love blue and yellow together--just totally happy! Love the placemat and napkins especially....and of course thouse birds!!
My husband is a prostrate cancer survivor too---he had surgury 3 years ago. They did a mistake during the sugury, leaving a clamp on the ureter and he almost died. They had to re-open him and remove the clamp etc!! So all of this made his recovery time slower. He just had his checkup again in September and so far so good!! We are so thankful they had been watching him (his dad had it too--but his dad got it in his late 60's or early 70's whereas my hubby got it in the early 50's and the surprising thing was that his psa was very very low!) . Although his doctor, or someone working under him, did the error....he still did save his life. If it was not for his watchfulness the cancer would have not been detected by the usual means (ie PSA). God has been very gracious to us.
Love the story Pat about the veteran...I truly thank God every day for our past and now service men and women...Loved your table girl and you know you made my ole heart skip a beat with the blue/yellow combo that and blue/white I jsut love...and it does look Frenchy to me...your photos are awesome as always Lady Pat...May you have a great day...oh toss my name in the hat...but will tell you I have never won a thing blogging yet ha ha!! Congrats on 400 post...WOW!! Girl way to go...Hugs and smiles Gl♥ria
Love those birds! what a gorgeous table. Love the gift the couple gave. My dad served 22 years in the United States Air Force and Vietnam and Korea twice. So happy J's appointment went well. My dad died of kidney cancer a few years ago. I miss him. Thanks for visiting me today and sharing also your lovely table.
I just love the vibrant color of cobalt blue, Pat. Your table is beautifully set as usual and your pictures are amazing. The mist by the lake is incredible!...Christine
Pat, I never cease to be amazed by the number of different plates and glasses you display!!!!! You must have a room just to keep your table serving pieces:) I am jealous, because I only have room for a few sets....but adore your constant change in settings! Thanks for always inspiring!!!!
Hello Pat, I LOVE your blue and yellow. I once had a guest room blue and yellow. I loved that room. The table setting is stunning. The little bird top it off. The cobalt blue is truly the prettiest accent as well.
I hope J's check up was good. My brother-in-law goes through the same checkups and he is always so relieved, as so far he is fine. He had surgery too. A very scary thing. My prayers will include J.
The story of the veteran was heart warming. God bless him and all of the men and women of the military. I pray that his surgery goes well.
I know you can't wait to get your camera back. How disappointing to have your camera break down.
Thank you for your visits while I have been gone Pat. I always enjoy your comments.
Hugs, Jeanne
Pat, love your table and the gorgeous colors. Your spaghetti looks tooooo good.
Barb ♥
Pat, I forgot to say earlier that I'm so glad that J's appointment went well.
Oh so very lovely, Pat!! One of my Mom's fave color combos is this blue and yellow! She had a guest room decorated in it and always said she wanted to sleep in there! I don't think she ever did, but she sure enjoyed foofing things for everyone who did. Thank you for spurring these fond memories of days gone by.
Enjoy the lake. Such a delightful place! I will pray for this wonderful hero, too!
Love and hugs,
Becky

Pat-I am glad to see the yellow and blue-my favorite color combination! What I loved most is your story of Mr T. I am learning more and more the value of listening to memories of that generation. I wish I had learned more of my own father's past. Glad J had a good check up!
Pat, no matter which camera you use, you do indeed have "the magic touch" and every photo comes out beautiful. I love the French Country theme of yellow and blue. Hi, I love the strong hue of the cobalt blue and with the yellow it is very striking. I can't imagine having 400 posts. I've just barely made 100. I wish I could pick your brain for all you have learned in doing so many. Anyway good luck with the drawing. Thanks for sharing your beautiful table.

Mmmm...that spaghetti recipe looks delish. It's raining here today, so I think this would be the perfect dinner for a day like today!

Beautiful post...and let's not let our freedoms that were won with the blood of so many be taken away by anyone!!!
What a happy-looking table! Thanks for the recipe, too; as a non-cook, I find easy recipes like this so helpful. Normal ingredients, too.
God's blessings on Mr. T and for all those who serve. I'd rather watch an awards show about those who serve than an Oscar or Golden Globes any day.
LOVE the yellow and blue and YUM to the spaghetti and meatballs!!!
Love the table for two - and I love yellow & blue! You are making me so hungry with your divine dish. Have a great weekend - thanks for sharing.
