~An Early Birthday Gift~

macro1

This little yellow flower grows in a container, on our eldest daughter and son in law’s back porch.  I took the photos Sunday morning, using the Canon G11.

As with others, I was having a tad bit of trouble leaving comments etc., this past Monday.  I’m still playing catch up and hope to see you all soon.

Thanks so much for your wonderful response to In the Garden and Blue White Yellow.

We haven’t done much with the new project, other than assemble all the elements.  We are having a busy week. Our plan was to complete the project Monday.  Instead, we spent the day buying our birthday present.

**********

My birthday (67th) is in July and J’s(65th) is in August.  As a rule, we do not exchange gifts.  Seven years ago, I took some teasing when we purchased the condo during my birthday week.  In other words…WOW what a birthday gift.  Our birthdays are usually spent quietly at home or with dinner out and no gifts.  This year, we are sharing a gift.

camaroA

J has been a Chevy/GM guy for as long as he can remember.  His trucks have all been Chevy’s.  He owns an 11 year old Silverado Z71. The truck before the Z71, was a 1978 Chevy he ordered from the factory.  That Silverado turned 21 years old, shortly before he purchased the new one, in 1999.  He also owned a 1950 Chevy truck, for many years, and sold it when we moved, in 2003.

I am giving you this little back story so you will know, we tend to drive our vehicles a very long time, before trading.  In 2004, we sold my 10 year old Chevy Blazer and bought my Toyota Camry XLE.  This was a whole new experience for J.  The Camry had absolutely no problems, recalls or otherwise.  It was a jewel for the “little ol’ lady” to drive.

Then, it happened; the 2010 Chevy Camaro appeared on the scene.  Oh my!! Yes it did!  We spent the past several months hemming and hawing around.  We researched, as best we could and talked to our resident mechanic…it’s nice to have one of those in the family.

We did everything but drive the Camaro.

Fast forward to Sunday morning, June 6th.  When returning home from our daughter’s, we took a little detour.  We rarely drive this route.  For some reason we just happened to drive past a Chevy dealership and there on the lot were 10…count ‘em 10 Camaro’s in all sorts of colors and with all sorts of options!  With a squeal of tires (sort of) and a sharp right turn, J drove into the lot.  Out of the car in a flash, he was in “Camaro Heaven”.

The dealership is closed Sundays.  Bright and early Monday morning, we made a decision to drive down and finally get around to test driving the car.  Amongst all those colors and styles was the Camaro of our dreams.  J called a salesperson, whom he has known since childhood.  We made arrangements to meet with him.  The rest is history.

The mosaic, above, shows our birthday gift.  It’s not the Camaro SS, with big motor and more horsepower.  It is a V6, with 300 horses, more suited for G’pa and G’ma.  We have a spoiler ordered; the low profile style.  Our son in law is looking into nifty new wheels, with a little glitz to them.

Just one more thing; did you notice the silver Camaro matches our silver hair?

J is still in a daze, saying he never thought he would have a Camaro.

By the way, when we took that test drive, we discovered our salesperson “B” had set the radio on 50’s music.  I do believe there was a little method to his madness.  As we drove along, listening to those great old songs, I told J I felt younger already, he said he did too.

**********

We are participating in a neighborhood garage sale, this week.  As you know, there is a lot of preparation for these events.  Because J is retired and we still have that 11 year old Chevy truck, we are called on for hauling this and that.  We will be very busy folks, the next few days.  In case I don’t get another post published, Friday, I want to wish you all a wonderful weekend.

We plan to do some cruisin’.

Beautiful and fun car! I love cameros and was so sad when they disappeared from the market place for a few years. My husband and I would like to buy a 69 camera convertible someday. Have fun driving your new car. Love it.

OH, Pat! I love it! What a great looking car. Mr. Magpie had a Chevy when we first started dating, and my sister has an SS-396 that was FAST! I caught Mr. Magpie looking longingly at this model on his computer and also at a Buick. He is driving a 27 or so year old Volvo wagon and needs some new wheels. Hence, he might be joining J and you shortly. Let me know what you think of it and how it drives after you have it for awhile. I would love to hear how in love with it your are. I'm going to show this to him when he gets home.

I'm thrilled for you both!

XO,

Sheila

NICE!!!! I am SO jealous, but SO thrilled for you!! (says the woman who shares a 15 year old Chevy truck with 200,000 miles on it with hubby!) LOL That is WONDERFUL- and very well deserved. Enjoy it! And be sure to have someone throw a few coins in the car for luck. My grandma always did that!

Good for the two of you. I say if you can afford it, why not. I'm always tickled when someone purchases something they have dreamed of for a long time. When you work hard all your life, you need to reap the rewards. Have fun.

Nice car!! As much as you two are on the road, you might as well ride in style. :-D Wish you lots of luck on your sale. I am trying to be good and stay away from yard sales this Spring, as I am slowly cleaning things out around here. My daughter does not want me to get rid of the things until she gets a chance to go thru them.

Oh Pat how exciting. My hubby is thinking about getting one, too. His fairly new Traverse is in the shop with the engine taken apart down to the head and he says that is not good. He is going to see what kind of deal they will do either on a camaro or another suv. He is rebuilding a 67 camaro ss right now. Happy Birthday!

WOW! Won't that be fun? All of us old folks can use a little glitz in our lives. Enjoy it and Happy Pre- Birthday. Sally

Sounds like you all were saving up for the the right birthday present at the right time. Congratulations That is a nice looking vehicle. I am like Twice as Nice, I love to see someone have a dream come true. In 1999 I sat down in a white Toyota Corolla and am still driving it. Only have 80,000 miles on it. Riding with HH in new Avalon or the old Toyota truck with 250,00o miles. May you have many miles of good, safe driving.

Hi Pat! Oh, congratulations on the Camero! It's gorgeous! We bought both of our children Cameros - a black one for our son and a 'silver' on for our daughter. She drove it in high school, college, after she was married, drove it from Texas to California and it just died. She literally drove the wheels off it! :) They are really good cars! Wow! I'm so happy for y'all. Now if you still keep feeling younger let me know, we may need to go car shopping! :0
Be a sweetie,

Pat, that is wonderful!! I have been totally eyeing those beautiful new Camaros and it has taken me back to highschool. I never owned a Camaro, but my best friend did after high school. We loved driving around in her car. This new style is so retro & so cool looking, I just love them. Made me turn my head more than once as I've seen one of them flash by in their stylin' colors.

That is Great, good for you and J!

Well, I was just reading along, nosying really, then pow - a new Camaro. Now that's a birthday present. And sweet too. I think they set you up with the 50's music. My husband would have driven off with one too. The pics are wonderful. I have a Nikon Coolpix S630 and have had a time of it with closeups. Also, I have a painting I did and can't photograph it. I wish I were as good as you at taking pictures.

Pat, I am back again! I just wanted to tell you I have the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM - I use it for everything from macro to portraiture. It is pricey, but I have used it a lot and love it! Several of the camellia photos I posted back in February were taken with that lens. It is sharp and fast.

I still love that birthday gift.

Ok, to get to Four Corners.... cross the bridge and take the West Main exit and turn right. It is a quick exit. As you go down West Main, you will see Heisinger Home which is a rest home on the Missouri river. On the left you will see the old West School. It is apartments now. As you continue down West Main you will see a lot of four square houses. It was quite popular during the 40s. You will come to the corner of Dix and Main. You can continue straight ahead to see the large house on the tour. It is on the corner of Donald and Main. If you turn on Donald (left) you can see the back of the house. If you turn around on Donald and head back toward Dix road, turn left onto Boonville Road. The 100 block is full of houses from the 1930s. The architecture is lovely. As you progress on Boonville, you will see Hazelton on the right. Take Hazelton and see the houses on this road, a mixture of 1930s bungalows and some 1950s houses. Hazelton will make a half circle. You will see East Circle on your left. Take East Circle to see more bungalows build in the 1920s. East Circle will take you back to West Main. If you go back on West Main, turn right. If you stay on West Main, go to Forest Hill. This is a quaint little street backed up by Memorial Park. Take Forest Hill to Meadow, turn R. Not much on this little street. Meadow will take you to Boonville Road. Turn L and you will see some lovely 1960s designs. I love these houses, too! Take Boonville to Hwy 179, turn L. Stay on 179 to Hwy 50. If you go east on 50 you can connect to 54 to go to the Lake. Just follow the signs! Call me if you are lost. My cell is on Facebook!!
