The table, we ordered, was delivered Tuesday afternoon.
Furniture maker, Jake, told us about a 100 year old barn, destroyed by one of Missouri’s infamous tornadoes, a couple of years ago. He was given the old barn, for the clean up, after the storm. Since then he has taken those old barn boards and beams and turned them into beautiful and useful pieces of furniture.
Jake, 31 years old, learned his craft from his father.
The legs on our table, were turned from lengths of the massive barn beams. The top and sides are made of the barn siding boards. The only new wood used is in the drawer.
The old barn wood is filled with holes, mars and scars from 100 years of good work on a Missouri farm. This makes our table even more special.
When Jake, with J’s help, brought the table and benches into the condo, I was all smiles. I absolutely love it. It is the perfect table for our lake place. I know I can seat 6 around the table and may be able to squeeze a couple more places in, for 8.
Jake delivered another piece of furniture and loaded it into our truck. We took it home last night and set it in the breakfast room. I’ll tell you more about that piece, when we return home.
In the meantime, we are back at our lake place, where I set a humble table, to celebrate Susan’s 100th Tablescape Thursday. It’s been awhile since I participated.
Setting our new table is a wonderful way to celebrate 100 Tablescape Thursdays.

Hi Pat!! I LOVE it that Jake is just 31 years old and is such a fabulous artisan!! I REALLY LOVE that his dad taught him to make such amazing pieces as that table of yours!! AND I triple LOVE that he uses reclaimed wood....wood with history...wood that will continue to give joy to the new owners! What a thrill to have that wonderful table and the benches! They are truly beautiful.

When you ordered it, I knew it would be nice but I wasn't so sure about using old wood. But wow it really looks great with the perfect combination of old world craftsmanship and 21st century panache! Love the fish dish too and I like even saying better ... FISH DISH - FISH DISH - FISH DISH! W.C.C.

I love the table, wow are you blessed. It's gorgeous. I would to be able to run my fingers over the wood. I loved those little fish dishes and the bi-colored glasses. It would be so fun to sit with you at that table.

How marvellous that wood from the old barn has been given a new lease of life instead of just rotting away or being burned. Your tablescape is lovely, elegant but rustic as well. I love that rattan tray.

what a blessed idea to use this old woood insted of throwing away it. I imagine how much have this old wooden boards seen and exyperienced. And what awesome table and benches Jake made of them. Really outstanding. Would love to have them, too.

I love this table. I was wondering if the individual that made the table lived near you? I also live in Missouri near the Springfield area.
I have been wanting a farmhouse style table. My mother was just given permission to take all the wood she wanted from my great grandmothers barn which is falling down. The barn is at least 100 years old and I think this would be a wonderful way to have such a treasure in my home.
