Thursday

~BC’s Kitchen~

Foodie_Friday_Logo_2

Thursday was one of those beautiful days, we sometimes have in January. The sun was shining, temperatures in low 20’s F; a great day for a little trip south.

The Meadows, at Lake Saint Louis, was our destination. We were on a hunt for new pillows.

After shopping, we had lunch at BC’s, at The Meadows.

Stop by Michael’s each Friday, for Foodie News and Recipes.

 BC’s Kitchen information HERE

ravioli4J’s drink was an organic coffee. Strong but wonderfully aromatic and delicious.

I chose iced tea, unsweetened, with lemon.

ravioli5  J ordered an all American favorite, cheeseburger and fries, medium well with cheddar.

His favorite is the great old tavern burgers, he remembers from his youthful days.  This looks like it might fit the bill.ravioli7

Peppercorn Vinaigrette was the dressing for my salad.ravioli8

My meal, a pasta dish made with butternut squash.

Our server was kind enough to tell us how to put together this ravioli, with butternut squash and roasted chicken, at home.

The ravioli, handmade in
BC’s kitchen,
is stuffed with butternut squash.

The white sauce is infused with sage. The dish was served with a garlic butter baguette.

An easy way to prepare this dish:

One roasted chicken, from the deli, cubed

1 Package of squash stuffed ravioli

Cubed butternut squash

Chopped flat leaf parsley

Parmesan cheese

White sauce, of your choice.  I imagine a jar of Alfredo will do nicely. Remember to add the sage.

Serve with a nice white wine.

Our server told me the squash ravioli can be purchased prepared.  When I find all the ingredients needed, I’m going to give this dish a try.

Excellent!

Our server was excellent too!

RAVIOLI11

We were very happy BC’s is located just around the corner from BB&B.  We were famished, after the rigors of pillow shopping.

Do you have any suggestions for really great firm pillows?

I chose one I think might work for me, we’ll see. I’ve been feeling a tad like the Princess and the Pea, only with pillows instead of mattresses.  I have a euro pillow in a synthetic, two standard feather pillows and a synthetic standard pillow.  None of these, alone or in any combination, has worked so well, of late.

At the urging of a salesperson, J tried out a couple of pillows.  Did you know you can actually try out pillows on one of the display beds at Bed Bath & Beyond?  I didn’t know that. After trying the pillows and being assured, if he isn’t completely happy with his purchase, he can return it, he decided to bring home a memory foam, on speculation.

I can’t thank you enough for your wonderful comments on the Black & White post. I love black and white photography and enjoy experimenting with it.  Your comments and encouragement are very much appreciated.

Sunshine is promised, for the weekend.  If the predicted snow passes by, or goes south, as they are telling us, we plan to take a little day trip.  More about that, Sunday, if all goes well.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I used J’s Canon G11 for the photos, featured in this post.  No flash, set on auto.  I was more interested in the food, than art!

Looks like a great day and a yummy lunch! I didn't know that about Bed Bath and Beyond. I've not been in love with my pillows lately either, and definitely need to try something new!

So yummy looking! I buy my pillows from JCPenneys. I've tried them from all over, but end up with theirs for comfort.

I have wanted to try BC's Kitchen but have not been in the area at lunch time. Your meal looks wonderful. HD would love the burger.

We leave Saturday for warmer weather in Florida. I am looking forward to sunny days and the beach.

Take care and I hope we can get together at The Lake when we return.

Hi Pat.....The ravioli looks delicious! I have 6 new pillows that I have bought in the last 6 months because of a neck problem I have been having. Sometimes it is hard to find just the right one! Good luck with our new ones!~Patti

firm pillows...? i can only think of those comfort foam pillows they sell at Brookstone's... but if you have an Asian market nearby, it's better to get the Asian kind, as they're firmer and cheaper.

...wow...I was not only looking at the food, I was peeking at the interior...loved all the combination of textures at BCs!
Pillows?
Well, so sorry my dear one...here it is down feathers...LOL...they are not firm at all... :)

i guess geese are just mushy birds:)

The food looks awesome. I am going to remember to make the pasta dish. I love how we are starting to use squash more and more in recipes in place of potatoes...at least I do.

I think I have to sleep on a pillow to know if it is for me. I sleep on (gasp) three pillows. I like to be propped up a bit, can't be flat on my back. And I am allergic to feathers so I use the synthetic type. Boy, do I sound fussy?? lol!!

We had sun today too. You know that I am in Chicago. So I hope your forecasted sun is good for me too!! :-)

OMGosh Pat I started cracking up about the pillow shopping. My hubby is complaining about his pillow and I plan on going tomorrow to buy a new one at BB&B. I need to replace ours I like the Isontonic Indulgence. It is not a firm pillow but it comes in a tummy sleeper or a side sleeper.I plan on doing a post on this very subject. It must be that time of year, I will let you know when I get the post done. I have heard good things about the memory foam pillows, I hope it works out for you! Kathysue

Oh that looks good, Pat! A little of both..Do you do that? Mix and match with J?? I try to do it when I get something I don't like! But he usually figures that out!! LOL..
Can't wait to see where your little trip will take you..shopping maybe??

Hi Pat, oh. my. gosh. Does that food look good ~ and you have aced taking great, appealing restaurant shots (not easy to do, due to the "iffy" lighting issues sometimes.) Nice job!

I hope you find that magical combination of pillows that allow you to drift off into dreamland effortlessly and sleep through the night. (Believe me, I understand ~ I'm picky about my pillows too.)

Can't wait to hear about your upcoming adventure! xo

My husband and I one particular pillow that we fight over--a very old tightly packed down pillow. It used to move from side to side--depending on who got in bed first :) I have never seen the squash ravioli, but I am certainly going to look. That dish sounds divine!

Pat, I want J's burger! That looks so good! Your lunch looks delicious too, but I'm in a burger mood at 11:00 p.m.! Not healthy thinking. How great that BB&B will let you try out the pillows. I didn't know that and I've bought several from there. I don't think we'll be taking any trips, since it looks like we are going to get the snow ice this time. It's sleeting here now. Have a good, safe trip. laurie

Oh my goodness... that restaurant should hire you to be their food photographer --what fabulous photos! I seriously want that burger now! ☺

I so enjoy your blog and photos and look forward to every new post! Some people just have the "knack" and you're certainly one of them! Loved the black & white post, too!

Hi again, Pat! I'm dropping back by because when I visited earlier I didn't wish you a Happy FF! LOL! And I'm eyeing that butternut squash on your plate and starving. Getting ready to head out and judge the hospitality portion of a BBQ contest that is affilliated with the Nationals in KC. I guess I won't be complaining about being hungry after tonight. ;-)

Warm hugs sent your way. You aren't being affected by the ice storm are you??? I hope not!

Happy Foodie Friday...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Hi Pat - I remember reading somewhere on your blog how you started it. I was inspired to begin a blog for myself and I loved your "New Mercys" calendar. I selected one that I liked from the Chistian Women Online sight and the only thing I was able to copy was the photo #5 and not the calendar. Kind of frustrating. Can you tell me please how you managed to get it to your blog. I'm so new at this but it is challenging and allows for creation. I would love to share my blog with my sister-in-laws and neices. The only thing, I wish they had the ability to leave a photo if they wished. I do love your blog. It reminds me a little of Emily Barnes style who writes wonderful books about home, family and Christian living that can be so very helpfull to young women and bring back a sense of "Oh, yes I remember". Thank you for providing a beautiful site filled with the wonderful blessed elements of your life and home.

Hello Pat, I too went shopping and anytime we go to town it IS a trip. Laughing. We had to stock up because of the threat of a big snow. Sure enough all was white when we reached our mountain. The food at BC's looks wonderful. We had a whopper, UGH. My sister was driving so I couldn't complain about her choice of food. She told me her first Whopper was when she was 12. Her fave ever since. She needs to branch out with her choice of restaurants. HA! This is girl who has traveled world wide since she was 18 years old. She worked as a flight attendant for years. Very worldly and sophisticated and all she wants is a whopper? She hates to cook. LOL.

I didn't mean to go on...

I have pillows that are a combination of filler and a solid thin sheet of memory foam. We LOVE these pillows. I hope J like his pillow.

Have a wonderful weekend
Hugs, Jeanne

Your lunches look super delicious! The pics turned out great! Pillows are such an individual thing and purchasing one can cause great stress! That's wonderful that you can try them out and take it back if not happy at BB&B.

I should never read your blog on Fridays, now I'm hungry for food I don't have. lol

Have I got a pillow suggestion for you! Rejuvenite pillows. We got ours at Sleep Experts and they were a bit spendy, but I've seen something similar at JCP and they have a website. They are a latex foam that is firm without being hard and the best thing is that they hold their shape. We used to buy new pillows every year or less because they were so deformed. We've had these not quite a year and they are still like new.

Hi Pat, Your lunch looks and sounded yummy! :)

I have a hard time finding pillows, too! I found one four and half years ago when we moved in this house, at Home Goods. I love it, and it was a little pricey, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I've never been able to find a match to it. I take it with me when I travel! :) Hope the pillows you and J found bring you a wonderful night's rest!

Love your black and white photos below! They are stunning! The "bird" tureen is a beautiful piece! ~hugs, Rhonda :)

Just a quick hello to you,Pat. Still busy trying to deal w/Mr. S's problem- it was a tough first week home and we still have a long road ahead. Loved your last B/W post and pics- you are quite the talented photog! I used to manage in the home dept. of a major retailer- yes, you can always try out the pillow in the store and return. I always suggested that the customer buy a pillow protector... LOL I prefer a foam pillow- Temperpedic or a Jamison memory foam. Firm but not overly so. Good luck in your endeavor.
hugs, Sue
