~Autumn...the year's last, loveliest smile.~ William C. Bryant
Melissa, of The Inspired Room, is presenting Fall Nesting, this week, beginning September 2. She has invited everyone to join the festivities by leaving a link, at her site, leading to their Fall nesting and decorating posts.Because Fall is my favorite time of year, I am excited about the event and will leave a link at The Inspired Room.
Missouri weather is varied, to say the least. During Winter we're accustomed to ice storms and blizzards, loss of power for days and yes, we've been snowed in! Spring brings interesting and dangerous weather in the form of electrical storms, tornadoes and floods. Summertime high temperatures, into the 100's can happen, along with humidity. This Summer, we had a bit of a reprieve, with dog days only lasting a short time. Our lawn, instead of becoming brown and crispy in mid July, is still fairly lush and green. There is something lovely about every season, here. Out of all the seasons of the year, I look forward to Autumn's calmer Missouri weather and sweet days, with the most excitement. I see it as a season of preparation for rest and renewal.
With nesting in mind, I added a red duvet cover and shams, to the bed in the Master Bedroom.
I pulled the round table and chairs from the living room and added red and gold pillows, from the Hearth Room.

A Cabinet Makeover
I've often thought of adding fabric to the back of this cabinet, in the Hearth Room. Over the weekend, I finally accomplished what I had in mind.
Saturday afternoon, I found fabric at Hancock Fabrics. I purchased foam board and set to work, Sunday afternoon. We recycle cardboard shipping cartons. J made a delivery to the recyclers, recently. The cartons would have been ideal for cutting to size and mounting the fabric.
I measured the cabinet back sections, cut the foam board to fit, then cut the fabric about 1.5 inches larger. It's important to notice pattern repeat, when using print fabric. Fold the fabric over the foam board or cardboard, mitre corners and secure with tape all along the edge of the fabric.

A close up of the results.

Beautiful, Pat. Your decorating is such inspiration for the rest of us. I love the fabric on the back of your china cab, but then, I love your china cab. :-)
Your home is just beautiful Pat! I love all of the special touches you provide. I have added fabric to the back of two of my hutches and love it. Your fabric pattern is one of my favorite toiles.

Hi Pat,
I always love seeing photos of your beautiful home.
The fabric looks wonderful in the cabinet, and I really love your fall table arrangement!
Your house is simply beautiful!! All the little additions are so very pretty...but I especially love the warmth that was added with the fabric in the hutch. Your home looks like a magazine spread...but with more charm and character than most designers accomplish!
Absolutely beautiful, Pat. I have long admired your beautiful home on GI and it looks even better on your blog! We are now in NE Oklahoma and really love the weather here. Bring on fall!
Hi Pat. it's beginning to look like fall at your house. You have everything looking so nice.
I especially love your cloches. And the fabric looks great in your cabinet. I love the collection of white pitchers also.
Have a blessed day Pat !
Pat, your home is breathtakingly beautiful!!! Exquisite is another word that comes to my mind. I love your taste....each and every corner reflects your wonderful taste ~ the back of the cupboard is just beautiful with the fabric inserts!!!! Wishing you a wonderful day, xxoo, Dawn
Beautiful Pat ~ I love the fabric on the back of your china cabinet idea! Thank you for the Fall Nesting link ... Fall's my favourite time of the year as well.
I love everything that you do. You are a lady with fine taste and you have a flare for putting it all together. It's always simply elegant!
I especially love your cloches with their little treasures! Enjoy the Fall weather. Sally
Oh, every thing looks so pretty at your cottage, Pat. You are so talented and I adore how you use things from other rooms all the time. That's such a smart thing to do. It shows how your rooms flow with ea. other.
I love the fabric you used on your hutch...very pretty, indeed.
I am still looking for a large swan like yours. I have the perfect place to put him.

Love your fall nesting. I've thought of adding something to the back of my china cabinet, but couldn't think of how to do it without damaging the original background--so thanks for the tips. Also, I'm wondering where everyone finds their cloche's. I love that look, but can't seem to find them in my area.
Hi Pat, Everything looks so nice and I love your white dishes and accessories. I just can't bear to do Fall yet. I usually wait until we close the pool because to me, that finally signals that summer is over. ~ Lynn
Beautiful photos! Have a wonderful Labor Day! Thank you for all your prayers and blessings,
kari & kijsa
Oh Pat! You did it once again! You outdid yourself, with how you have decorated your home for the coming season. All just beautiful...
And I especially appreciate the way in which you describe Autumn... As the season of preparation for rest and renewal. I particularly love these words.
Happy September!

Oh Pat, I LOVE what you did to your china cabinet. Beautiful.
Thank you for your nice compliments on my courtyard fountain. We purchased it about 3 years ago at Costco. It wasn't too much either ~ somewhere around $300 I think. It's funny where you said you want to place one like it ~ outside of the dining room, front of the house and against the garage. That's exactly where ours is placed. Our oldest daughter's bedroom is right above the dining room on the second floor ~ and she loves to hear the fountain as she drifts off to sleep.
you know, Miss Pat, you always just find the Perfect Finishing Touch :)
the cabinet is lovely, but the fabric on the back side makes it just perfect...
and the little pumpkin in the nest is funny :)
I like decorating that doesn't take itself too seriously :)
Your decorating is always amazing to me. Tranquil and cozy. Your tablescapes are phenomenal. I am tempted to print it out to emulate. You so inspire me.
Brenda

Pat, Your home is breathtaking! I especially love the way you put the fabric in the back of your cabinet. I may have to borrow that idea! It looks absolutely charming!
Hugs,

Your home looks so welcoming---I am envious of your decorating skills. Just love the red touches in the bedroom and the fabric addition to the back of the hutch...what a difference. Your fireplace looks so cozy with the pumpkins and lantern! A great nesting place, for sure! Dana
Your pictures take my breath away! You are a very talented photographer and of course, have a wonderful "subject" (your home!). I love that fabric from Hancocks as I've seen it and admired it and wondered where I could use it in my home....you've given me an idea for using that exact fabric on my 3corner cabinet in the kitchen...might have to go get me a sample!
We're getting rain from Gustav but not much else right now....let's hope it stays that way.
Have a great week!
Judy
Lovely as always Pat :)
Kathy :)
Your home looks grand!
Oh, Pat, how beautiful! Your home is just stunning and you have such a flair in decorating! I love the cabinet you spiffed with the fabric. I did the same thing to a little hutch in my breakfast area Saturday, but used scrapbooking paper. Mine is not as elegant as yours. You're wonderful!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia :)

I love your dining room table, it's so big and so inviting! I also love the centerpiece that you made for it!
I love your HUGE pear! I saw some big old apples at Marshall's last week, but it didn't do much for me...but my 4 year old loved them...so when we went back yesterday, he was looking and looking for them, but they were gone, he was bummed!
I love the arches on your hutch! So pretty :)
Bella

I have that fabric from your hutch project on my windows in the living room. I love it. I also love you dining room table. We are so outgrowing ours. You have decorated your home so beautifully.
Love the colors in that toile! It looks great in the back of your china cab. I used liquid starch to adhere fabric to my laundry cab doors. Peels right off when I'm tired of it.

The weekend at the lake was wonderful, seeing all the family and the HS friends in Lebanon. Hope your trip down was safe and the birthday party was fun.
Trying to decide which day to head home so I don't run into rain the whole trip. Nothing is looking good.

Hi Pat!!
Your home is just gorgeous!! I love your "nesting"!!
You have the same fabric (toile) that I do. I'm not quite sure what it will be put to use on...but I like your idea of using it on the back of your cabinet.
Two pix below the fabric-backed cabinet...there is a painting of a lighthouse. Just curious where you got it, cuz it's done by an artist friend of ours from Door County, Wisconsin...KATHY GLASNAP!! I'd recognize her artwork anywhere!!! It's pretty!
~Blessings,
Jan

Your fall decorating is beautiful!! And I love the fabric you used in your hutch.
I like that you did your centerpiece for the table in a tray. That would make it easy to clear off the table if you need to.
I just love how your house is decorated, so warm and cozy and so well put together!

Here's one more little comment. I love the quilt on your master bed and the antique bronze rod and shelves in your bathroom. The fabric added a wonderful touch of beauty to your cabinet. Hancock Fabric is the place for me in Tulsa. I also love, love, love your slate floors. I could go on and on because your house is such a visual feast for the eyes. :D
you have a very beautiful home and really puts me in the mood for fall. I love your farm house table and the ladder back chairs. the hutch you recovered in fabric is a fantastic idea, using form core so you can change it out! Love that fabric!!.. You have inspired me!

I just love your fall decor'! And the hutch in your hearth room turned out fabulous. I did the exact same thing with Laura Ashley fabric in our bedroom armoire!
