My contribution for Today’s Thrifty Treasures is a trip to the 2009 Saint Charles Friends of the Library Book Fair. Books are true treasures.
We attend the event every year. Table after table of donated books are available for sale, at bargain prices. Proceeds benefit the library.
Stop by Rhoda’s for more Thrifty Treasures.
This is also my contribution for Diane’s 2nd Time Around Tuesday.
G’pa J and Xanti at the 2007 book fair. That was the year we dragged accompanied J to Miss Aimee B’s Tea Room for lunch, after the book fair.
I took my beautiful Raised in Cotton bag, thinking one bag would be plenty. After taking the filled bag to the car twice, J decided we needed more containers! The Whole Foods bags were quickly filled, too! I think we should look for a laundry cart, or something similar, at the garage sales, before the 2010 book fair.
When J and I finished making our selections, we went to the lobby, where there are several comfortable chairs. I was carrying the above book, when we sat down. An elderly lady, sitting in one of the chairs, asked about the book. I’m sure my carrying that book was meant to be. She told us her own amazing dog story. The extra special animal gave the woman and her husband many happy days. Meeting her and hearing her story was a wonderful bonus to our book fair day.
This was my only purchase in the special section. This book was $5. J has lived near the Mississippi River all of his life and I have for most of mine. I believe we will enjoy these stories, very much.
Lunch after the book fair, this year, was at Panera’s, with eldest daughter Terrie, who also made several purchases at the fair.
We’re at the lake, as you can see by the window and shutters in the background of some of the photos. While J is fishing I’m going to see if I can find something to read.

You found some amazing books. I would have been in hog heaven just going through all of these wonderful books. I probably would have made a few trips myself to the car. Loved the decorating books at such incredible prices. What a fun day. Hugs, Marty

Pat, I spotted lots of great selections - I've always loved a good book fair. Jacob and I used to work the book fair when he was in elementary school. It was so hard not to put selections aside, and he used to have so much fun....Robyn
I think books are some of my best friends!
I am looking forward to this week's posts!
What great books you found! I love Friends of the Library :)
All the best,

You found some nice books. That Mississippi book looks like it belongs here hehe.
Hope you are having a good time.
Oh, you made some excellent selections at the book sale.
what great finds, maybe next year you should consider boxes and dolly! lol!
Those are great books, Pat! I just love to read too & am determined to get more books read this summer instead of blogging too much! Nothing better than sitting down with a good book. I love James Patterson too as well as some of those other mystery authors. Love me a good mystery!
Now I'm going to have to attend our own library book fair! I love books but seem not to find time to read much anymore. I've read "Sundays at Tiffanys" by James Patterson & enjoyed it. I'm also a big Nicholas Sparks fan.
Waiting for your next post...!
Wow! You got a lot of great books. Can't wait for your upcoming posts.
Good for you! I love used book sales. Your hardbacks are fantastic for that price.
Happy reading :)

Ohhhh...Pat! What great finds at unbelievable prices!! Love Stuart Woods...he's from GA! BUT...the whole trip would have been worth it to me for that Pierre Deux's French Country at $2...woo hooo!!! Have a great week...Debbie
Pat, you found some great books! I would have purchased all the bird books too.
I love James Herriott...I loved all his books and just loved the BBC tv adaptation.

Hello Pat, we just came in from our Yellowstone tour of a very small part of the park. The park is huge and we have four more days to explore. So different from Rocky Mtn. Nat'l. Park.
I enjoyed your 2007 book fair info and the photo of J and Xanti is wonderful. Handsome and so pretty too.
I can see by many of the photos of decorating books where your interests lie. But I already knew that. The dog book brought you an interesting story and that was special. I see you have a thing for birds too. No wonder we like each other right away we have lots in common. Books in general as well. Bill is a fan of James Paterson, but he says sometimes the evil is really bad but the good usually wins. I am loving the price of the books.
Time for a nap before we go back to the park to see the wildlife that loves to come out of hiding in the evenings.
Hugs...Jeanne
OMGosh I adore book fairs, but haven't been to one in ages. You found some wonderful books. ♥
Hi Dear Pat! Oh, I love books and looks like you've found some great ones! I kinda like James Patterson too!
Now your granddaughter is just a beautiful young lady! Love that red hair!
Now, you go out on your deck by the water, put your tiny feet up and have J make you a glass of iced tea and read and rest! Sounds like heaven!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;0
