~Guest Room Makeover Reveal~

guestroom15

mondaymet secondtimearoundtuesday

With the completion of the guest bedroom makeover, I’m combining Metamorphosis Monday and 2nd Time Around Tuesday, in one post.  Stop by Susan’s Monday’s and Diane’s each Tuesday, for makeovers and renewed treasures.

Looking into the vanity area, of the guest bath, as it looked before.  The paint color is Laura Ashley Olive #5 (Lowe’s)

guestroom20Before

The paint color is Laura Ashley Gold#3. The panels and roman shades are beige lined in cream.  Oldest daughter “inherited” these for her master bedroom.

The three gold pillows are now used in the living room. The lamp, once belonging to J’s late mother, is in the other guest room. The settee and tables are used in other rooms.

The paint color remains the same.

guestroom12When I found the navy, white and gold toile comforter, at Target, it set the wheels in motion for a little guest room makeover.  I shopped the house for accessories and the wing chair.  I purchased the bird prints, above the bed, at All About Home, here in our town.  The sconces are from JC Penney.  The black lamps were formerly in the master bedroom. The lyre tables were found years ago at a local auction.

The furniture is from our room, at the farm; it’s Lexington.

Checkers, chess pieces and a deck of cards are stored inside the game table, beside the chair.  A stack of travel and decorating books are on the small dresser.

I replaced the heavier window treatments with bamboo shades and sheers. Giving the room a lighter feel.

I’m very pleased with how the room makeover turned out.  Somehow, the room seems more comfortable.

The wing chair is my contribution for 2nd Time Around Tuesday.  Given to us, by our niece, the chair was upholstered in a chartreuse and olive stripe. Not pretty, at all. I believe it is from the 1950’s or 1960’s.  I had the chair upholstered in a soft gold.  The skirt was added, at that time.

The throw, on the chair, is a Ralph Lauren cable knit, from Marshall’s at Osage Beach, MO.

guestredo6 I replaced the brass knobs on the sliding closet doors, with these blue and white knobs, found at Hobby Lobby.

guestroom17This photo shows the vanity area of the guest bathroom, after it was repainted. The paint color is Laura Ashley Gold #2, mixed in Kilz.  This is a pass through bathroom, with the other vanity area off the hallway. A tub and toilet room separates the two vanity areas. These rooms are being painted LA Gold #2, also.

Many thanks to Joni, at Cote de Texas, for featuring my photos, on her post, Photography 101, Sunday June 14th. I appreciate this so much, Joni!!

A REMINDER:

Friday June 19th is Marty’s Cloche Party.

~A Farmhouse Table~

secondtimearound

It’s 2nd Time Around Tuesday, hosted by Diane of A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words. Visit Diane’s for more treasures given a second chance.

SecondTime2 My sister in law saw the table first, while on an antiquing trip, in Clarksville, Missouri. She called and told me she had found THE table, I had dreamed of.

A few weeks later, we were at the same antique mall. I was walking through exploring, when I saw the table. I didn’t know it then, but it was the same table my sister in law told me about. J and I made a quick decision to purchase the “farmhouse” table that very day. This was a couple of years before we built our present home.

When we were planning our home, we asked our builder to make the breakfast room large enough to fit the 9 ft table. He did exactly that, with room to spare.

Not an antique, but we do believe the table is handmade. Perhaps put together in a home workshop.

The table also has the look of display tables, used for Ralph Lauren displays, I’ve seen at Dillards. Our table may well have been used for display, in another life.

Warped and bowed, dinged and dented; it’s the perfect table for our breakfast room.

~A Porch Party~

 porchparty17

It’s time to prepare porches and patios for the Spring and Summer season.

Porch & Patio Party secondtimearoundtuesday

Barb at Grits and Glamour has invited everyone to a porch and patio party, May 5th. Visit Barb for a list of participants.

This post also qualifies for 2nd Time Around Tuesday, hosted by Diane of A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words. Visit Diane for wonderful treasures given a second chance!

porchparty9

I enjoy having a cup of coffee or glass of iced tea on the back porch on Spring and Summer mornings.

porchparty5

A sea grass rug covers the concrete, which is stained a light red.  The round table is from a flea market, the Queen Anne style chairs are from a resale shop. We painted them and recovered the seats.  The glider that sat on the porch, last year, is now at the lake.  I borrowed the wicker from the bonus room/studio. We found the old iron gate, hanging on the fireplace, last year, at a nearby antique shop. The small wicker table and stool are from Michael’s 60% off sale, last year. They were originally natural; we painted them white. The bunny on the table shelf is from a garage sale, several years ago. The bird houses were found at craft shows, during the 1990’s.

porchparty6

The cushions and pillows are used when the wicker is in the studio. At other times, here on the porch, I’ll use a red floral cushion and crocheted pillows, on the settee.  The crocheted throw is from Tuesday Morning.

The iron fireplace screen is actually three separate decorative iron panels, purchased at Welcome Home (now closed).  J strapped them together to make the screen.

The copper coal bucket/scuttle, I found at Saturday’s garage sales, holds a red geranium.

I found the small glass vase and another one like it at a garage sale.  I also bought glassware at the same sale. I plan to feature them in a future tablescape.  The lilacs are from Miss Kim Lilacs, growing beside our patio.

The patio Hosta garden is flourishing.

Looking toward the back yard from the back porch.  The patio, for Spring/Summer 2009 is still a work in progress.

Thank you for stopping by the Back Porch. Be sure to stop by Grits and Glamour for more porch and patio ideas and Diane’s for 2nd Time Around inspiration.

~A China Cabinet~

hint6 My Mother’s cabinet is the subject for my second, 2nd Time Around Tuesday, hosted by Diane, at A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words.

The cabinet once belonged to a friend of Mother’s. It wasn’t new, when Edna acquired it. It was part of a dining room set that included a large table, several chairs, 2 china cabinets, this one and one with glass doors. A buffet completed the set. When Edna moved to a smaller home, she sold some of the pieces. Mother bought the cabinet. A year or two before Mother passed away, she moved to an assisted living apartment. At that time, she gave the cabinet to me.

The original plan for our home included two columns in the dining room; an open room, with just one wall. Because the cabinet has special meaning for us, we asked our builder to construct walls, in the dining room, rather than install columns. There are two walls, that fit this cabinet perfectly.

Wonderful 2nd Time Around posts are found, each Tuesday, at Diane’s.

Inside the cabinet are a few of our second time around dishes. The blue bowl with daisies, was J’s paternal Grandmother’s; a gift she received at her wedding over 90 years ago.

The photo below is a small hint of my Easter tablescape. More about that, later this week.

~Lavabo~

I found this lavabo at an estate sale a few years ago. I don't know the history of the piece. The home was furnished in the style of the 1950's. This looks like it could be from that era.

I believe the basin once held an artificial arrangement. There were signs of some sort of adhesive. Many times, the basin of a vintage decorative lavabo held a living plant, like a philodendron. I chose to use potpourri. The lavabo hangs in the hallway from the living room to the powder room and master bedroom.

The estate sale also included a complete vintage patio set. I regret not bringing it home. The set included a glider, two chairs, a glass topped dining table and four chairs, a glass topped coffee table and end tables. All iron and included cushions. The set was in pristine condition and the price was $250.00. I still think about passing up that furniture!

I'm adding a link at Diane's A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words, for 2nd Time Around Tuesday. This is the first time I've participated in this fun event. Stop by Diane's on Tuesday, for more 2nd Time Around posts.
We're working on the blue and gold guest room, this week. We also have a trip to Clarksville planned. There is a double bonnet secretary, at Rose Cottage, that has been calling my name, since last fall! More about that later.
Have a wonderful week!
EDIT:
I came back to edit, after reading Gloria's comment about the Lavabo. I love the comment, Gloria, thank you!
A Lavabo is used in some churches, for ritual handwashing, during Communion Service. Gloria's dad was right on the mark!
Sorry if I gave the impression, this type of Lavabo is used in churches. I mentioned decorative Lavabos in the body of the post, when writing about mine. Functional Lavabos are often used in churches.
